Oblivion Game of the Year Edition coming soon

Summer’2007 was not too rich with Oblivion-related news. With one significant exception: Oblivion Game of the Year (GOTY) edition was announced by Bethesda on July 9.

GOTY edition will include Oblivion itself, Knights of the Nine downloadable content collection, and TES IV: Shivering Isles expansion. The new edition will be available on September 10 for PC, PlayStation 3 and XBox 360. Price tag was not yet announced, but it is likely that the package will retail for $50 (PC). The Links section of this website was updated today, with multiple dead links removed, and a few new ones added. It appears that no less than one third of Oblivion fansites, blogs and forums that were created before or shortly after game release are now gone, and most of the others were not updated for a year or more. As for Cyrodiil Chronicles, we will still be posting TES-related news and maintain our forums, which are well alive and growing.

Well, that solves a problem for me. I lost my Oblivion disk months ago and still haven't been able to find it. My plan was to break down and buy it with next month's paycheck... Now it won't feel like a loss, since GOTY includes Shivering Isles, which I don't have yet.

I'm also glad to have found one of the last remaining active Oblivion forums.

Surely we are not as active as the official forums, but yes, it's true - we are one of the few remaining. Oblivion, despite all its virtues, didn't inspire as many online communities as Morrowind did. For instance, I remember there were many RP blogs and forums for Morrowind, frequently updated; now, not many people seem to be interested  in such things. Although I don't track situation with mods; there seem to be many exciting ones.

(I've started playing Morrowind again not long ago - since I got a new video card. Why not Oblivion? Don't know... Morrowind just left better memories.)

I've checked Wikipedia today, and my assumption about GOTY price appeared to be right - $49,99 for PC, $59,00 for both consoles.

I prefer Oblivion over Morrowind because I think it has better game play, mind you I haven’t played Morrowind for a fair while so I might get it out and get stuck into it again. I might get the G.O.T.Y edition because it comes with Shivering Isles and it’s always good to have a backup disc if you play it a lot…

I've edited the latest news paragraph on the site's main page. There's some info that I missed before.

Update: Oblivion GOTY has begun shipping today, September 10th, for XBox 360 and arrive in stores as early as September 11th...

I went to Best Buy hoping to pick up a copy of the PC version, since I kept hearing September 10th as the release date. No luck. I went home to check on it's availability and only the 360 version was on their website. I thought it was just a mistake of the website but I read the quote above and they make no mention of the PC version. So, I don't know what the delay might be or when the PC version comes out.

I thought it would already be on the shelf today so now that I don't even know when it might come out (maybe next month, maybe later than that) I'm more than a little disappointed.

OK. Update:

I may have misread it once again.

"Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax Media company, announced today that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion® Game of the Year Edition (GotY) for Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows has begun shipping to retail stores throughout North America and will be in stores as early as Tuesday, September 11."

I missed the tiny mention of "and Windows" in there. I may have just read it all together, since they love to include every official name possible in their descriptions:

• I thought it was "Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows"

When you're making a list of long and short titles, you gotta put the shorter one first! Doesn't "Windows and Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft" make more sense than their version? Sheesh.

Anyways, my mistake. False alarm.

Guess where I'm headed after work today? 

Edit: Best Buy still didn't have it... so I went online and ordered it elsewhere. It shouldn't have been such a hassle to track down and buy. Now I have to wait 3-5 days for it. The only good part is that with a discounted price ($46.99 - instead of $49.99) and shipping ($4.99) it's cheaper than buying it in-store after my 6% sales tax by a good $1.01.
